This is a great investment and definite improvement over the drugstore thermometers out there. You minimize on sanitations concerns of oral thermometers and, so far, we've received more consistent readings in shorter time than the under-the-arm digital thermometers as well.
It's non-contact so you are able to get your child's temperature without touching them or waking them up. It works to get a body, surface or room temperature. If your child's temperature is high you will hear a loud beep....you can turn this sound off if you need to. It does come with 2 AAA batteries and a little bag to carry it around in. I love it.
